Dr. Joshua Greenberg is a vascular and endovascular surgeon at Mercy Health Physician Partners, and an instructor for Cook’s Essentials of EVAR: Endovascular Techniques for Treating AAAs course. Get to know Dr. Greenberg:
Where did you grow up?
West Los Angeles, right next to UCLA in Westwood
What was your dream job as a kid?
Originally it was working at a car wash or as a fireman. Pretty much by 9th grade, I knew I was instead interested in Medicine
What was your first car?
Honda Accord
Why did you decide to pursue vascular surgery?
The ability to treat all sorts of patients, young and old, with a range of complex conditions, anywhere in the body, with the largest range of therapies of any specialist
Where did you train?
Residency at UC San Diego, Fellowship at Stanford
Where are you currently practicing?
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Which meetings do you like to attend and why?
The VAM because of the importance of the meeting for our specialty overall, and the regional meetings such as the Western and Midwestern Vascular because of the quality abstracts and the peer networking. The Winter PVSS is also a great meeting for young surgeons, and I enjoy skiing.
What do you like to do when you’re not in the OR?
Hang out with family, travel, run… sleep.
Why would you encourage physicians to attend Vista training?
It’s a great opportunity to learn from experts who aren’t that far out from training about tips and tricks and pitfalls of routine and complex endovascular procedures.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I haven’t been to Bali yet. I would travel there because it sounds amazingly restful and unique.
What’s the last book that you’ve read?
The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham, the mentor of Warren Buffett. Doctors in general know little about finance and so I recommend a good self-education on the topic.
If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, what would it be?
“Mad Men” comes to mind, not because I embrace many of the values of the characters, but it seemed like such an exciting time in America.
