Better intelligence, knowledge sharing, informed decision-making

Is this a utopian healthcare provider/supplier relationship or an achievable necessity?

Martin Matkin, director of Cook’s Healthcare Business Solutions team in Europe and Ali Ali, head of procurement at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust know such relationships are both achievable and necessary.

Cook and Bradford worked together to improve catalogue management and optimise transactional interfaces which resulted in improved purchasing, better intelligence and closer relationships overall. ‘It allows us to make better-informed decisions, based on better spend management and better demand management. (The relationship) evolved significantly,’ says Ali in a recent interview with National Health Executive.

So how can we in healthcare go about gaining better intelligence and in turn use our learnings to create a more efficient supply chain for customers?

Matkin says, ‘I’d like to see rooms all over the country where suppliers and procurement sit down to talk and are not allowed to mention price. Find other ways of savings and efficiencies. It takes an open and honest conversation, built on trust, and having the right people in the room.’
