Cook Medical expands percutaneous stone extractor line with launch of Perc NGage® and Perc NCompass®

Bloomington, Ind. – Urologists now have new options for stone extraction devices when performing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), as Cook Medical is launching the Perc NGage® and Perc NCompass® nitinol stone extractors today. The new products complement the Perc NCircle®, which has been on the market since 2002 and was the first nitinol extraction device for percutaneous procedures. Cook Medical was the first company to incorporate nitinol into its stone extraction devices.

The two extractors are designed specifically to remove stones and stone fragments when physicians are removing kidney stones percutaneously. The design of the extractors mimics the original NGage and NCompass, which are indicated for ureteroscopic stone removal procedures.

Because every kidney stone is different, the method for extraction varies from stone to stone. The different wire configurations of each extractor are useful in various scenarios. For example, the Perc NGage can grasp and release a stone, while the Perc NCompass has a 16-wire configuration.

“These products were developed for physicians who needed, in PCNL procedures, the same options that they currently have with our ureteroscopy extractors,” said Jean-Marc Creissel, vice president and global leader of Cook Medical’s Urology division. “We are pleased to be able to meet that product need and fill out our percutaneous extraction offering. Now physicians can apply the technology they master to an additional procedure.”

The Perc NGage and NCompass are available to urologists in global markets where FDA clearance and CE Mark are accepted.
