Building medical devices comes with great responsibility, as our work directly impacts patient safety. Our manufacturing processes and materials must always meet the highest quality, and we set expectations for our suppliers to match the expectations we have for our internal teams and processes.
To ensure this level of quality and to support our suppliers, we have several programs to help them meet our business and quality expectations. You can read about each of those programs below.
Suppliers may be required to complete corrective actions for nonconformances. If this is the case, Cook will send a formal request for corrective actions along with the requirements for response and implementation.
We know that consistent availability of the supply of medical devices is critical to our healthcare partners being able to provide the best possible care to patients. That’s why Cook has developed risk mitigation and business continuity programs that include multi-tier supply chain transparency. These programs are becoming more vital as we continue to experience an increasing amount of unexpected disruptions from disease, weather, geopolitical events, and more.
To better be able to offer affordable products to healthcare providers, our total cost program aims to achieve the highest quality, lowest total cost, and most efficient processes.
Cook Medical has a comprehensive Global Ethics & Compliance program. Learn more about the way we do business and read the Cook Group Global Code of Conduct, which describes the value we strive to achieve as a corporate citizen:
“Serve as a corporate role model for the betterment of society by being a sensitive employer and contributor to the communities where we reside, and an example of the highest integrity in business dealings.”
We are committed to ensuring that our global operations align with our values and policies on human rights and with legal requirements in the countries where we operate.
Cook has also established a Supplier Code of Conduct, outlining the requirements for supplier interactions with Cook Medical and its affiliates. The Code is designed to improve business relationships, help ensure ethical and legal compliance, foster an environment of partnership, and create value in our business interactions.
In addition to meeting ethics and compliance requirements, Cook Medical has also worked to become compliant with other regulations required to conduct business throughout the world, including the European Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR) and European Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (EU REACH), among others. Many of these regulations require visibility into all components that make up our finished products. For this reason, all components and materials that are used in Cook Medical’s finished products also are in scope of these regulations. We use third-party data collection partners to work with our suppliers to ensure compliance to the applicable regulations. Being a supplier to Cook requires cooperation and support of this initiative.
We are committed to being proactive about reducing our environmental footprint and encourage our supplier partners to do the same.
