Cook Medical Announces Investment in Zenflow Series D Funding Round and Exclusive Distribution Agreement for the Zenflow Spring

Key highlights

The Zenflow Spring® Implant and Delivery System in anatomy

Bloomington, Ind. — Cook Medical led an oversubscribed $52 million Series D financing round for Zenflow, a medical device company. Additionally, Cook Medical signed an agreement to become the sole U.S. distributor of the Zenflow Spring® Implant and Delivery System, the company’s product.

The Zenflow Spring is a minimally invasive implant designed to provide lasting relief for patients suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This innovative device is the latest addition to Cook Medical’s pipeline of prostate health products.

About the Zenflow Spring

The Zenflow Spring is a novel, nitinol-based implant inserted into the urethra. The device opens a new category of treatment called first-line interventional therapy (FIT), giving physicians a device-based option they can offer instead of drug therapy, or ahead of Minimally Invasive Surgical Therapies (MISTs). The device is designed to provide safe, effective, and durable relief from obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) while preserving sexual function — a key differentiator in the BPH treatment landscape.

Patients may receive this device in a simple, office-based procedure without the need for general anesthesia, incisions or removal of prostate tissue, virtually eliminating the need for post-operative catheterization. Importantly, the procedure can be fully reversed if ever desired by simply removing the implant.

A Deepening Partnership

Cook Medical first invested in Zenflow as part of an earlier funding round, recognizing the transformative potential of the Zenflow Spring technology to address a significant unmet clinical need. BPH affects millions of patients worldwide, and the Zenflow Spring offers a compelling, office-based alternative to more invasive surgical procedures.

Shreya Mehta, Chief Executive Officer of Zenflow, said, “Cook Medical’s deep relationships within urology and proven commercialization capabilities make them the ideal partner to help bring the benefits of the Zenflow Spring to patients across the country. We are thrilled to close this round of financing, demonstrate our commercial potential, and help physicians treat many more patients.”

About Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

The prostate is a small gland that helps make semen and surrounds the tube that carries urine out of the body called the urethra. The prostate can grow larger as the patient ages, which is called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate. This growth can press on the urethra, making it harder to urinate and leading to symptoms that disrupt quality of life, including difficulty starting or fully emptying the bladder, a weak or interrupted stream, increased frequency and urgency, nighttime urination, and discomfort. About 50% of men between the ages of 51 and 60 have BPH, and that number jumps to 70% among men aged 60 to 69 and around 80% of men over 70 years of age.

Cook Medical’s prostate health portfolio is dedicated to treating BPH and many other prostate pathologies. The exclusive distribution agreement in the U.S. positions Cook Medical as a key commercial partner for Zenflow, leveraging Cook Medical’s sales infrastructure, deep relationships with urologists, and decades of expertise in minimally invasive medical devices. The Zenflow Spring complements Cook Medical’s existing portfolio of urology and prostate health products, creating a comprehensive offering for healthcare providers treating BPH.

Quotes

“Our initial investment in Zenflow reflected our confidence in both the technology and the team,” said DJ Sirota, senior vice president of Cook Medical’s MedSurg division. “Today, we are proud to deepen that commitment with a substantial Series D investment and to take on the role of sole U.S. distributor for the Zenflow Spring. This is a significant addition to Cook Medical’s prostate health portfolio and aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver innovative, minimally invasive solutions that improve patient outcomes.”

“BPH is one of the most prevalent conditions affecting men’s quality of life, and yet many patients remain undertreated or dissatisfied with existing options,” said Johan Lowinger, director of product management for Cook Medical’s Urology specialty. “The Zenflow Spring represents exactly the kind of breakthrough we look for — a simple, effective, office-based solution that puts patients first. We are excited to bring this technology to urologists and their patients through our distribution network.”
