Bloomington, Ind. — Cook Medical announced a collaboration with Mendaera™ Inc., a Silicon Valley-based healthcare technology company. The goal of this collaboration is to create cutting-edge solutions for needle-based interventions in urological procedures by combining Cook’s market-leading needles with Mendaera’s handheld robotic platform. Together with Mendaera, we are excited to pursue new opportunities in percutaneous procedures.
Cook had been looking to team-up with a cutting-edge medical technology company, like Mendaera with its ultrasound-guided robotic platform, to make our EchoTip technology available to more patients. When we decided to collaborate with Mendaera, we knew we had found a great fit: Cook has a mission to innovate minimally invasive surgeries, and Mendaera’s handheld technology combines ultrasound guidance with robotics to enhance the precision and ease of use in needle-based interventions. As part of the collaboration, a trocar needle with Cook’s highly visible EchoTip technology will be integrated into Mendaera’s instrumentation offerings. By pairing an EchoTip trocar needle with Mendaera’s instrumentation offerings, physicians can further improve their workflow in percutaneous procedures.
“By combining Cook’s needles with Mendaera’s robotics, we can bring amazing advancements to urological procedures,” said DJ Sirota, senior vice president of Cook’s MedSurg division. “We are thrilled to work with a company in the robotics space, especially because fit-for-purpose disposables paired with robots will be the future of healthcare. Pairing an invention that we are very proud of with the advanced technology developed by Mendaera will help more physicians perform needle-based interventions precisely and consistently. We are setting the standard for minimally invasive procedures through our joint effort.”
“Mendaera’s technology has been designed to precisely and reproducibly deliver needles into the body across several types of procedures to access hard-to-reach anatomical targets with ease and simple training. Adding the EchoTip technology option to our portfolio of universal instrumentation kits further streamlines set-up and ease-of-use. Deep collaborations with partners like Cook enable us to offer value-add product offerings to help healthcare providers do more for their patients,” said Eric Davidson, Chief Commercial Officer at Mendaera. “We are excited to work with Cook on pairing their world class instrumentation with our first-of-its-kind robotics platform.”
