Cook Medical Makes Ordering Easier by Improving E-Commerce Options

Bloomington, Ind. – As hospitals adopt electronic commerce (e-commerce) as the standard for how they order products, Cook Medical is determined to improve the available e-commerce options for its customers. One recent improvement has been an enhancement of their online ordering system. This update demonstrates Cook’s continued dedication to lowering costs and increasing efficiency. Over 80 percent of the company’s North American incoming orders are happening through some form of e-commerce.

Cook recognized that not all customers were able to use the more advanced forms of e-commerce for their transactions with Cook. Some customers relied on fax, phone, or email orders. These are more prone to human error, take more time and cost more than online ordering. So Cook upgraded its online ordering system, which hadn’t been updated since its launch in 2008. Now, all Cook customers can use online ordering and experience the advantages of using e-commerce. Customers do not need to change the way they currently order products; the updated system is simply another ordering option.

“Over the past few years, members of the healthcare industry have been increasing their use of e-commerce as a way to improve efficiency and lower the costs associated with doing routine business,” said Dave Reed, vice president of the Healthcare Business Solutions division and vice president of operations at Cook Medical. “But the costs associated with advanced e-commerce platforms can be a big challenge for smaller hospitals and providers, which is why we decided to make our system more user-friendly.”

The updated system allows customers to build and save routine orders. This reduces the time spent ordering the products that they use most frequently. Customers can also see their entire order history, search for products in more ways, view detailed product information, confirm that products are in stock and choose from new payment options.

“Cook’s improved online ordering system is now more useful to a wider variety of our customers,” said Reed. “They can take advantage of a simple, cost-effective way to order Cook Medical products.“
