Cook Urology and Convergent Laser Technologies Forge Worldwide Marketing and Distribution Pact – Alliance Combines Cook's Strength in Urology with Convergent's High-Quality Holmium Laser Technology Used for Treating Kidney Stones
July 31, 2007
Spencer, IN – July 31, 2007 – Cook Urology, a division of Cook Medical, and Convergent Laser Technologies today announced a strategic alliance that will couple Cook's longstanding industry expertise and worldwide sales force with cutting-edge Holmium laser technology from Convergent. Cook and Convergent have entered into a worldwide agreement that enables Cook to market and distribute Convergent's Odyssey lasers and laser fibers for the treatment of kidney stones.
"We are very excited to be working with Convergent," Pete Yonkman, president of Cook Urological said. "Both companies share the same commitment to quality and patient focused innovation."
The Odyssey laser and laser fibers utilize patented, variable pulse width technology that gives surgeons the flexibility to switch from disintegration of stones to ablation and coagulation of soft tissue with one push of a button. The Odyssey has the industry's first green aiming beam for enhanced visibility of the treatment site and enough power to treat any renal stone, regardless of size, position or composition.
In making the announcement, Convergent's CEO, Marilyn Chou, Ph.D., noted, "Cook Urology is an established and respected leader in endourology development and distribution and there is great synergy between our organizations. Together we will provide urologic surgeons worldwide access to the latest Holmium laser technologies that can result in a significant, positive impact on kidney stone treatment."
